The Myanmar delegation, led by Commodore Tet Lwin Htun, Commandant of the Myanmar Coast Guard, took part in the 4th ASEAN Coast Guard Forum (ACF) held from June 24 to 27, 2025, in Pattaya City, Chonburi Province, Thailand. The event was hosted by the Thai Maritime Enforcement Command Center (Thai-MECC).
Senior officials and representatives from the Coast Guards and Maritime Law Enforcement Agencies (MLEAs) of ASEAN member States, along with delegates from the Information Fusion Centre (IFC) Singapore and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), actively participated in the forum.
The ASEAN Coast Guard Forum serves as a vital platform to strengthen and nurture friendly relations among the Coast Guards and MLEAs of ASEAN countries. It promotes collaborative efforts in maritime law enforcement, maritime security, navigation safety, and marine environmental protection—focusing on pollution prevention, control, and response.
Since its inception in 2022 in Bali, Indonesia, the ACF has been held annually: the second forum took place in Jakarta, Indonesia, in 2023, followed by the third in Davao, Philippines, in 2024. This year’s 4th ACF, hosted by Thai MECC, featured a comprehensive agenda including Regional Maritime Situation Updates, Demonstrations of Search and Rescue (SAR) operations with advanced equipment, a Press Conference by the Secretary General of Thai MECC, bilateral meetings, courtesy calls, and working group discussions on the Terms of Reference and Concept Paper for the establishment of the ACF.
The theme of the 4th ACF was “Fostering Maritime Safety, Security, and Prosperity in ASEAN.” The Myanmar Coast Guard actively engaged in the forum, seizing valuable opportunities to enhance international maritime cooperation. The delegation gained significant international exposure and exchanged knowledge with ASEAN counterparts.
Overall, the 4th ACF 2025 strengthened the role of Myanmar Coast Guard in regional maritime cooperation and enhanced its international recognition. The event provided a platform to build mutual trust and confidence, which will greatly support the continued organizational development of the Myanmar Coast Guard.
